Lake Speaks to State's Top High School PlayersJune 30, 2010By David Shelton, Special to the High School Sports Report Charleston Southern baseball coach Stuart Lake was the keynote speaker at the 24th annual High School Sports Report Spring Sports awards banquet, honoring South Carolina's top prep athletes from the 2010 spring sports season. Lake, a native of South Carolina who prepped at Mid-Carolina High School, addressed the crowd of nearly 900 athletes and parents at the June 27th banquet. The coach relayed a few stories about his time as a high school athlete in the Palmetto State and also spoke to the athletes about their futures outside the field of competition. "Athletics will open many doors for you," he said. "You must take advantage of that and you must be accountable for everything that you do. "There should be a sense of urgency about everything you do. Your sport and your school studies included. Without an education, your options become severely limited." High School Sports Report publisher Billy Baker said of Lake, "He's a man who grew up in this state and knows the passion this state has for high school athletics. We are very appreciative of his willingness to interrupt his summer to speak to an outstanding group of athletes." The High School Sports Report is a monthly publication dedicated to the coverage of South Carolina high school athletics.
