CSU Announces Hiring of Patrick Nix to Football Staff

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Head Football Coach Jay Mills announced the hiring of former Auburn quarterback Patrick Nix to his staff on Wednesday. Nix will coach the wide receivers, including returning all-conference selections Gerald Stevenson and Kwame Krakue, and will serve as the recruiting coordinator and passing game coordinator for CSU.

“I am excited to be here at Charleston Southern,” said Nix. “This is a unique opportunity for me because I am able to coach at a high level of football and bring my faith to the job, while still being involved with my family. I believe that this program is an important part of the school’s vision to become a university nationally recognized for integrating faith in learning, leading and serving, and I am happy to be a part of it.”

Nix most recently spent two years (2007-08) at the University of Miami, where he was the offensive coordinator and primary play caller for the Hurricanes. He served in the same position from 2004-06 for Georgia Tech, part of a five-year stint with the Yellow Jackets.

“We are privileged to have Coach Nix join the CSU family,” said Mills. “We are excited about the expertise he brings professionally to our staff and team, and equally enthused for the character that he displays to colleagues he works along side and the young men who are entrusted under his care.”

The former Auburn quarterback graduated in 1995 and got his start in coaching at Jacksonville State University, where he coached the running backs and quarterbacks. From there he spent two years as the head coach at Henderson State University and a year at Samford as the wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator before being hired by Georgia Tech.

As a sophomore, Nix led the Tigers to a perfect 11-0 record and was named the Pat Sullivan Offensive Player of the Year and Cliff Hare Student-Athlete of the Year. He is still ranked in the top five in numerous categories, including the school’s leader in career passing efficiency.

The 38 year old Nix is married to Krista Chapman Nix and the couple has four children; Emma (12), Bo (10), Caleb (7) and Sara (2).
