Lady Buccaneers Hill, Holeman Earn Big South Weekly Honors September 13, 2010CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Charleston Southern’s Amanda Hill has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Player of the Week in volleyball, while Radford outside hitter Emily Carlin was tabbed the Freshman of the Week. Cori Holeman of Charleston Southern picked up Defensive Player of the Week honors for matches played Sept. 6-12, the League announced today. For CSU, Hill earns the sixth Big South Player of the Week honor of her career. Holeman was previously named defensive player of the week once, Nov. 2, 2009. Hill, a senior from Moncks Corner, S.C., posted a big week for the Lady Bucs as she posted 111 kills, averaging 5.29 kills per set. The outside hitter posted three matches with at least 20 kills, highlighting her week with a career-high 29 kills against UNC Wilmington on Sept. 7. She posted a .281 percentage at the net and chipped in eight aces in the five-match span. Defensively, Hill came up with 87 digs and seven blocks. She posted five double-double matches on the week and was named All-Tournament at the North Florida Tournament as she led her team to wins over North Florida and Chattanooga. Carlin, an outside hitter from Downingtown, Pa., put away 38 kills for an average of 3.45 kills per set to lead Radford to a 3-0 record last week. She got her week started with 10 kills, five digs, three aces and one block as Radford downed Chicago State, 3-0, on Sept. 9. Against DePaul on Sept. 10, Carlin posted 15 kills, 14 digs, a block and two aces to lift the Highlanders to the 3-2 win over the Blue Demons. She closed her week out with 13 kills, a .235 attack percentage and 11 digs in the 3-0 win over Georgia State. For her efforts, Carlin earned All-Tournament plaudits at the DePaul Invitational. Holeman, a senior middle blocker from Fort Mill, S.C., posted 24 blocks and 12 digs for the Lady Bucs last week. In Charleston Southern’s wins over North Florida and Chattanooga, Holeman turned away eight attacks in both matches, including two solo blocks against the Ospreys. She averaged 1.14 blocks per set in the five-match span. Also nominated for volleyball Player of the Week for Week 3: Chelsy Kimes (Coastal Carolina), Evan Moffit (Gardner-Webb), Megan Smith (High Point), Karyl Bacon (Liberty), Amanda Kettles (Presbyterian College), Cindi Miller (UNC Asheville) and Desiree Aramburu (Radford). Also nominated for volleyball Freshman of the Week for Week 3: Kayla Klinger (Charleston Southern), Meghan Laffin (Coastal Carolina), Tyler Cockrell (Gardner-Webb), Maddie Simpson (High Point), Jade Craycraft (Liberty) and Andrea Barman (Presbyterian College).
