LEXINGTON, VA - Freshman Lionel Greene delivered a two-run single in the top of the 11th inning to boost Charleston Southern to a 7-6 victory over VMI, giving the Buccaneers a sweep of the three-game Big South Conference series.
Charleston Southern improved to 20-24 overall while upping their Big South record to 7-8. The Bucs entered the series having lost six consecutive league games.
The Buccaneers ripped off 16 hits in Sunday's victory, including a four-for-five performance from center fielder Jay Reynolds. Billy Dalton and Brian Sole each had two hits, each hitting a homerun in the effort. Drew Grosse and Michael Blankenship also had two hits each.
Junior Jordan Haar, the team's leading hitter and homerun hitter and seldom-used pitcher, was the surprise starter on the hill for the Bucs and turned in a career-high 6 2/3 innings. Haar allowed three earned runs, five hits and struck out five.
CSU's third pitcher, Bobby Parnell, earned the victory in relief, improving to 2-6 on the season. Nino Fasulo got the final two outs in the 11th to record his second save of the year.
Charleston Southern returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Wofford at 3 p.m. The Bucs visit nationally-ranked Clemson on Wednesday before returning home for a three-game conference series against Coastal Carolina over the weekend. Related Item: Box Score |
