Stevenson and James Earn Additional Honors From CFPA

By CSU Sports Information

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Shortly after earning Big South Special Teams and Defensive Player of the Week honors, Gerald Stevenson and Charles James earned another honor for their play against Liberty, this time coming from the CFPA. It is second honor for each, and the fourth week in five games that CSU has had a player honored by the group, with A.J. Toscano earning honorable mention honors as well. This week, though, Stevenson earned National Kick Returner of the Week honors, while James was once again honorable mention Defensive Back of the Week.

Stevenson returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown at Liberty, his first career kickoff return touchdown and the second 100-yard kickoff return for a score in Big South history.  Stevenson finished the day with three kickoff returns for 146 yards for an average of 48.7 yards per return, as well as 199 all-purpose yards.

James tied the Big South Conference single-game record with a school-record three interceptions Saturday at Liberty, in addition to recording 10 total tackles (seven solo, three assisted) and four pass break-ups.  James limited Chris Summers to just four receptions for 48 yards and no touchdowns when he was in the game (Summers’ final reception, a 29-yard touchdown pass on fourth down with :28 seconds left was without James in the game).  James now has five interceptions in his last two games.
