CSU athletes among honored graduates in 2004

Charleston SC—Charleston Southern athletic department graduated 34 athletes in last weekend’s commencement exercises at the North Charleston Coliseum, five of whom received academic honors.

“We are so proud to have such a large successful group represent the athletic department,” said CSU athletic director Hank Small.

Among the honor graduates were softball’s only seniors, Kelly Backert and Jennifer Foster, who both received cum laude recognition, along with Zach Snyder (football) Ariel Furfuro (men’s tennis).

Jeff Kolhagen of the Buccaneer baseball program, was in the honors program and received summa cum laude honors, as well as The John A. Barry Scholar Award. Women’s tennis player Kim Kennedy received the Carolyn Killen Hunter Outstanding Christian Teacher Endowed Scholarship and Award.

“We are exceptionally proud of honor graduates and it is definitely gratifying to have two of our athletes receive the top two highest honors,” Small said of Kolhagen and Kennedy. “It is certain that this group will be very successful in their future endeavors.”
