CSU makes change in baseball; Murphy contract not renewedAugust 2, 2004By CSU Sports Information CHARLESTON, SC – The eight-year tenure of Gary Murphy as Charleston Southern’s baseball coach has officially ended as athletic director Hank Small announced on Sunday that Murphy’s contract would not be renewed for the 2005 season.
Murphy compiled an 183-270 record in eight seasons at Charleston Southern, including a 35-52 record in Big South Conference play over the last four seasons. The Bucs were swept in two games in the 2004 conference tournament, running their losing streak in tournament play to five games. Murphy’s most recent contract ended on July 31, 2004.
“We are grateful for the eight years that coach Murphy gave our baseball program,” Small said. “Coach Murphy is a fine man and a good baseball man. We wish him all the best in his future coaching endeavors.”
Small says the University will now embark on a nationwide search for its new coach, with hopes of filling the position in the coming weeks.
“Students arrive in a few weeks and if we find the right man, we would like him on campus by the time classes begin,” said Small. |
