CSU Hosts February FCA Rally

by CSU Sports Information

CHARLESTON, S.C. – As they do the first Monday of each month, the Charleston Southern athletics department gathered in the Brewer Center on campus for the school’s FCA rally. This month’s guest was Pastor D.J. Horton, a former Auburn football player and current pastor of Anderson Mill Baptist Church in Spartanburg, S.C.

Tonight’s speaker D.J. is from Montevallo, Alabama, and has served as senior pastor of Anderson Mill Baptist Church, located just outside of Spartanburg, S.C., since 2004.  A lifelong learner, he earned a bachelor’s degree in special education from Auburn University, a masters of divinity degree in expository preaching from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and a doctorate of ministry in expository preaching from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

While at Auburn, D.J. decided to walk onto the football team as a linebacker. His persistence paid off and he drew an assignment as a fullback on the practice squad.

His thought provoking message was a challenge to the student athletes and coaches to examine their own lives to see if they were truly happy, and he outlined the steps necessary to live a blessed life in the eyes of God.

The nights message was preceded by a Paper-Rock-Scissors tournament in which assistant football coach Dave Padilla took home the hardware.
