CSU Holds March FCA Rally

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern student-athletes, coaches and athletics staff members joined in the Brewer Center Monday, March 7 for the monthly Fellowship of Christian Athletes rally. The evening included contests as well as a lesson from Tracy Turner.

The evening opened with a Scripture reading from freshman softball player Hayes Holdsworth. Next, Tam Odom, Director of Women's Ministry and Creative Arts at CSU, led the student-athletes in a couple interactive contests. A video showing pictures from all of the athletic teams, created by Odom, was then shown.

Tracy Turner then gave a message to the student-athletes, using Titus 2 as his main Scripture. Turner is a former Baptist Collegiate Minister who lives in Spartanburg, S.C.

Turner’s message was based around the question: “What motivates you?” He proceeded to read from Titus 2:11-14, which begins: “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age.”

Through the use of sports illustrations and stories from personal experience, Turner spoke about how student-athletes’ motivation is often derived from outward factors such as money or fame. He then said that the motivation to succeed should be drawn from an intimate relationship with Christ, who sacrificed his life so that we can be saved. Turner ended by reiterating his question of “What motivates you to live?”

The final FCA rally of the 2010-11 academic year will be held Monday, April 4 at 8 p.m. in the Brewer Center.
