by CSU Sports Information
CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Bucaneer baseball team will look to rebound from a 13-10 loss to USC Upstate when they host the Fordham Rams March 11-14 in a four game series at CSU Ballpark. Friday's game will start at 3 p.m., while contests on Saturday, Sunday and Monday will start at 2 p.m.
The Bucs vs. The Rams
The Bucs and the Rams have faced each other three times prior to Friday’s contest. Charleston Southern owns a 3-0 series lead over Fordham, defeating the Rams three consecutive times in 2005. The Bucs can boast a 5-0 shutout win over Fordham, and have won by an average of eight runs in each prior meeting.
CSU vs. The A-10
Members of the A-10 are a somewhat familiar foe for the Buccaneers, as they have faced six of the league’s 13 members in program history. The Bucs have played 28 games vs. A-10 members and enter the Fordham series with a slight disadvantage at 12-16. Fordham and Rhode Island are the only series in which CSU holds a series lead, with the Bucs being 3-0 vs Fordham and 2-1 vs. URI. They have also faced Charlotte (4-7), George Washington (0-1), Richmond (2-4) and Xavier (1-3).
Senior outfielder Tom Burkett put up his best effort of the season, going a perfect 4-for-4 on Tuesday vs. USC Upstate. Burkett had three runs and two RBI as well. Two of his hits were doubles, and he was a successful 2-for-2 in stolen bases.
Sustar’s Grand Slam
Sophomore Jaren Sustar had not hit a home run in the past 36 games, but his first career homer on March 9 vs. USC Upstate, Sustar hit a grand slam in the second inning.
