Bucs to Host Eagles on TuesdayMarch 21, 2011by CSU Sports Information CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Bucs will look to rebound from a tough weekend against Big South foe Liberty when they host the Eagles of Coppin State in a non-conference match up at CSU Ballpark on Tuesday. Game time is set for 2 p.m. The Bucs vs. The Flames Tuesday will mark the first ever meeting between Charleston Southern and Copping State when the two face at CSU Ballpark. The two share a common opponent this season in Savannah State, whom the Bucs split a series with 1-1. The Eagles were able to take a win from the Tigers as well, but fell 1-2 in the three-game series, who are also a member of the MEAC conference. The Bucs have traditionally fared well against the MEAC, going 37-11 all-time versus teams from the league. The MEAC team with a series lead over the Bucs is Bethune-Cookman, who has a 3-0 advantage. Coppin State is one of two MEAC schools (with baseball) that CSU has never faced, with North Carolina Central being the other Buccaneer Blast - Stew Brase gave up more than one earned run for the first time this season on March 18 at Liberty. - Brantley Meier was held hitless for just the third and fourth times this season and just the 12th time in the past two years. -Nick Chinners and Brantley Meier are the most often walked players, with 19 and 14 walks this season respectively. -Derek Smith’s five home runs are tied for second in the Big South. -Meier is second in total plate appearances with 1-2. Goin’ Streakin’ When both Brantley Meier and Derek Smith were held hitless versus Liberty, sophomore catcher Drew Woodall took over with the team’s longest hitting streak of the season. Woodall’s six-game streak dates back to March 9 vs. USC Upstate and covers six games. Woodall has had one hit in each game since, going 6-for-16. Making a Sacrifice After tying the NCAA record for sac bunts in a game, sophomore Jaren Sustar now leads the league in the same category. Sustar has 11 sac bunts on the season - almost double that of the league’s number 2 (WU’s Cam Walters, HPU’s Sal Pezzino), who have six. Walk It Out Not only does Nick Chinners lead the Buccaneers in walks, he is also near the top of the conference in the stat category. Chinners’ 19 walks are second in the Big South to Coastal’s Tyler Motter who has 22 on the season. Game Links Game Notes | Live Stats | Live Video
