Bucs Host 45th Annual Awards BanquetApril 26, 2011By CSU Sports Information CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern athletics department gathered one final time as a group during the 2010-11 school year, taking the opportunity to recognize another banner year in CSU athletics during the 45th Annual Athletic Awards Banquet. Each team handed out a sportsmanship and MVP award, and also took time to honor their seniors and letter winners from the past year. For the second year in a row, the baseball team took home the Buc Cup, awarded to the team who had the best attendance and various events throughout the season. The football team won the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s Team Community Service Award for the second-straight year, thanks in part to their donations to Soaps for Souls. Football player James Nicholson alone gathered in more than 200 pounds of soap for the organization, and for that was named the SAAC Representative of the Year. SAAC also recognized its officers; President Amberle Trinder (Volleyball), Vice President Tricia Rodl (Volleyball) and Secretary/Treasurer Cornelius Tyler (Men’s Track and Field). For the first time in the history of the school, the Bucs named three Senior Female Athletes of the Year, honoring the three Big South Players of the Year this season in Amanda Hill (Volleyball), Marky Boyce (Women’s Soccer) and Katie Tull (Women’s Basketball). It was a busy night for Tull as she also took home the women’s basketball sportsmanship award and was named the Hunter Cup recipient. Tull will receive the award at graduation on May 7, 2011. The award, named after CSU President Dr. Jairy C. Hunter, Jr., is given to an athlete for their all-around athletic, academic and character performances during their CSU career. Jamarco Warren was named the Senior Male Athlete of the Year and men’s basketball MVP, while Laura Grace Swindler was given the R.L. Wynn Christian Leadership Award, and Chris Kuzdale was named the Michael Frost Christian Athlete Award.
