CONWAY, S.C. - Sophomore pitcher Robert Swindle (9-4) hurled a complete game six hitter, striking out eight batters, as the Charleston Southern baseball team defeated Coastal Carolina 5-2, Friday evening at Watson Stadium. Swindle owns the CSU strikeout record (252 Ks) after just two seasons. Coastal, who saw its seven game win streak snapped, falls to 38-13, 9-5 in the Big South, while Charleston Southern improves to 17-32, 9-10 in the Big South.
Seamus Donovan (4-6) suffered the loss, despite striking out a career-high 10 batters in 6.2 innings of work.
CSU got on the board first in the opening frame when leadoff hitter Jordan Haar hit a solo blast to left field.
Coastal would get on the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the fourth inning on a RBI-triple by Steve Pinocchio and a RBI-single by Tyler Hasbrouck. Brad Woods would give CSU the lead for good in the fifth, with a two-run shot to left field. The Bucs would add insurance runs in the ninth on a two-run bases loaded single by Adrian Vanderburg.
Haar paced Charleston Southern on the evening with four hits, while Andrew Grosse had two. Hasbrouck led CCU with two hits.
