James Named to CFPA Defensive Back Award Watch List

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Just a day after earning CDS Preseason All-American Honors, junior defensive back Charles James has been named to the College Football Performance Defensive Back Watch List, it was announced Tuesday by the organization.

This is not the first recognition for CSU by the group as WR/KR Gerald Stevenson was named the Kick Returner of the Year by the CFPA following his performances last season. James was also honored by the group as an honorable mention performer of the week, earning the distinction twice during the season.

After tying the single-season record at CSU and finishing third in the nation with six interceptions, James earned AP All-American and first team All-Big South honors last year. He broke the school record with three interceptions in a game against Liberty and was the Big South Defensive Player of the Week once. He defended 17 passes on the season, six more than anyone else on the team.
