Former Buc Thornburg to Participate in All-Star Futures Game

by CSU Sports Information

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Former Buccaneer and current Milwaukee Brewers prospect Tyler Thornburg has been selected to represent the Brewers on the United States team at the 2011 XM All-Star Futures Game at Chase Field in Phoenix, Ariz., on Sunday, July 10.

Recently promoted to Milwaukee’s Class-A Advanced Affiliate Brevard County, Thornburg was slated to make his debut for the Manatees vs. the Lakeland Flying Tigers last Saturday.  However, the game was postponed due to inclement weather.     The Eastpoint, Fla., native spent the first part of the season with Class-A Wisconsin where he made 12 starts and earned a spot on the Midwest League All-Star team.  Thornburg boasts a 7-0 record with an ERA of 1.57 with the Timber Rattlers.

Thornburg spent three seasons with the Buccaneers before being selected by the Brewers in the third round of the 2010 MLB Amateur Draft.  He compiled a record of 9-8 with 123 strikeouts for CSU, earning numerous Big South accolades.  Earlier this year he was named a top-10 Brewers’ prospect, ranking sixth overall and fourth among pitchers in the organization.

The 13th Annual XM All-Star Futures game is a part of the 2011 MLB All-Star Game festivities.  It will be broadcast live from Chase Field on ESPN 2 at 6 p.m.
