Basketball Teams Finish Buccaneer Classic Program

By CSU Sports Information

With the first session of summer school ending this week both the CSU men’s and women’s basketball teams took part in the Buccaneer Classic summer testing program.  The Buccaneer Classic is a testing program that tests strength, power, endurance, and flexibility.  Each player is graded on their testing performance per their sport and position in 10 different categories.  The first award level is SUPER BUC which is earned by scoring 60-74 point, second level is ELITE BUC which is earned by scoring 75-84 points, and the final and most prestigious award level is CHAMPION BUC which is earned by scoring 85-100 points.

“The 2011-12 version of the CSU men’s basketball team did a tremendous job this summer,” said Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Tobias Jacobi. “The men worked very hard and their improvements have been seen in the testing performance.  In the Buccaneer Classic Kelvin Martin and Sheldon Strickland both shined, earning ELITE BUC.  This is the first time the men’s team has had to players who earned ELITE BUC.  Other highlights were eight-point improvements in the Buccaneer Classic by both Greg Dorleus and Matt Kennedy, however the biggest single improvement when to Jeremy Sexton who improved 10 points.  There were 39 different personal records produced this past summer during our training program.

“The 2011-12 women’s basketball team also did a good job training during this summer session one program.  In the Buccaneer Classic Erin Bratcher earned ELITE BUC, while Lakeitha Alston earned SUPER BUC.  Alston and Bratcher were the two biggest highlights for the Lady Bucs this summer with Alston producing a 5 point improvement in the Buccaneer Classic, while Bratcher made the biggest improvement of any Basketball players this summer by improving 15 points.”

A majority of the men’s and women’s teams will train at home for the rest of the summer, however the men’s newcomers will all be on campus beginning next week when the second summer session begins.  CSUSports.com will post another update from them and the football team at the end of the summer training program which will be in early August.
