Buccaneer Football Holds First Practice of 2011 SeasonAugust 5, 2011by CSU Sports Information CHARLESTON, S.C. – Undeterred by thunderstorms in the area, the Charleston Southern football team moved to Buccaneer Fieldhouse to kick off the 2011 football season with their first practice of the year. Storms hit the area shortly before the team’s first official field session, which was slated for 3:25. The players took to the gym to complete their stretching while the rain came down outside. After a brief outdoor period, practice was moved back into the Buc Dome for the duration of the session. “We arrive with the largest team that we’ve had coming to fall camp; 93 individuals reported,” said head coach Jay Mills. “We also arrive, for the first time since I’ve been here, with the same full-time coaches we had a year ago. That’s the first time that’s happened at least in the nine years that I’ve been here so I feel good about our leadership. I feel good about our young men and the character they possess. Their youthful energy is going to be able to be transferred on to the football field.” Coach Mills and the Buccaneers will kick off the 2011 season on September 3 when they travel to Orlando, Fla., to take on the University of Central Florida. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised on the Bright House Sports Network.
