CSU Opens Regular Season at Home Against WoffordAugust 29, 2011by CSU Sports Information CHARLESTON S.C.: Charleston Southern opens up the regular season at home as they welcome the Terriers of Wofford to the Buc Dome Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. CSU (0-3) returns home after a difficult tournament in Durham, N.C. where the Lady Bucs battled Furman, Wisconsin, and No.17 Duke. Although they did not get a win, the experience was a definite plus for this young squad, Coach Bellush commented “we played some great competition in that tournament; it was good for the girls to see top-tier talent like that, we will use it to grow.” CSU outside hitter Erin LaVenice was named to the All-Tournament Team compiling 32 total attacks, 12 kills, six block-assists and two digs in three games. CSU went 5-7 at home last season. Wofford (3-1) comes into this match after participating in the Southern Illinois Edwardsville Tournament where the Terriers won their first three matches before losing to Western Illinois in the final game. Sophomore Bekah Dorsey had an outstanding second day finishing with 11 kills, a .786 hitting percentage, 41 assists, six aces and 17.5 total points including a school record .800 hitting percentage against Kent State. WU went 5-8 on the road in 2010. After a tough opening tournament, Head Coach Danyel Bellush is looking forward to a return to Charleston, “I am really looking forward to playing at home, this is big since we will not play at home again for another month.” CSU will be away from the Buc Dome until Sep. 30 when they welcome High Point 7 p.m. CSU will open the month of September heading to Winston-Salem N.C. Sep. 2-3 to participate in the Wake Forest Invitational. |
