CSU Baseball Concludes Parents' Weekend World SeriesOctober 11, 2011by CSU Sports Information CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern Baseball team completed its Annual Family Weekend World Series on Sunday, concluding an intrasquad series that consisted of three seven-inning contests as part of the team’s fall season. The roster was split into two teams with two seniors, Charlie McCready and Corey Deighan, drafting the teams and acting as head coaches for the weekend. Coach Deighan’s team rallied after losing on Friday 6-1 to take the series over Coach McCready’s team with a 3-1 win on Saturday and a 3-2 win on Sunday. The game one MVP was Patrick Dolan, who tossed 5 innings allowing no runs and only 3 hits to pick up the win. The game two MVP was Jaren Sustar, who had a big rbi go ahead double and crucial sacrifice bunt late in the game. Jaren also made several big defensive plays at third base. Game three MVP Zach Hagaman had a big two RBI double and sacrifice fly late to drive in all three runs for his team. The Parents’ Weekend Series MVP was catcher Denis Buckley, who caught game three and had a save in game two and game three to allow his team to win the series. Postgame Quotes: Charlie McCready “We hit a lot of balls really hard right at people this weekend. Corey’s (Deighan) starting pitchers did a good job of not giving out free passes. Our staff had a couple walks that hurt us in the end, but overall we played well and had a legitimate shot to win every game. We just didn’t get some breaks we needed.” Corey Deighan “I am proud of the way my guys fought after losing the first game. Defensively, we made some good plays and got great pitching from the starters and relievers. Offensively, we executed well when the situations came up.” Head Coach Stuart Lake “First, I would like to thank all the families and friends who came out to CSU Ballpark over the weekend. We are blessed to have some fantastic people who care about our baseball players and the program. I enjoyed watching our guys compete over three days. I also would like to thank my assistant coaches who were jacks of all trades this weekend from grilling to coaching and did a great job as always!”
