CSU To Take On Defending NIT Champions

WICHITA, KAN. : The Charleston Southern men’s basketball team will end their time in Kansas facing off against Wichita State on Nov. 13 at 4:00 p.m. in Wichita.

HEART BREAK IN MANHATTAN

CSU is coming into the Wichita State game after dropping the season opener to Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan. The Buccaneers led at halftime by 15 over the Wildcats thanks to 5-11 from beyond the arc. CSU would only score four field goals in the second half, eventually letting the victory slip away 72-67. Jeremy Sexton led the Buccaneer attack with 19 points on 6-15 shooting and Arlon Harper was all over the stats sheet with seven points, five steals and four rebounds. CSU had 23 points off of turnovers compared to 20 by the Wildcats, led the second chance points battle 21-10 and scored 16 on the break compared to KSU’s 12.


WE MEET AGAIN
The game will mark the first time that CSU Head Coach Barlcay Radebuagh has faced WSU’s Head Coach Gregg Marshall who Radebuagh assisted in 2001-2003 at Winthrop University. While with WU, Radebaugh helped the Eagles to two consecutive Big South Conference titles and a NCAA berth in 2002. Upon leaving Winthrop, Radebaugh went on to coach at Queens for a year, then became an assistant coach at the University of Miami before taking the head coaching position at Charleston Southern.

SHOCK AND AWE

The Shockers of Wichita State come into the 2011-2012 season after winning a school-best 29 games last year. WSU won their first ever National Invitational Tournament last season, defeating the University of Alabama 66-57 in Madison Square Garden. The Shockers finished last season 14-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference. With the graduation of JT Durley, last season’s leading scorer, the Shockers will turn to Toure’ Murry who is the teams leading returning scorer (9.4 ppg).  Forward Ben Smith was named the 2011 MVC Sixth Man of the Year and captain of the MVC All-Bench team. Smith played in a school record 37 games, and was awarded the Shafer Dart Most Inspirational Player Team Award.
