Young Paces Bucs with 2 Wins on Day 1 of BSC Championship

by CSU Sports Information

BLACKSBURG, VA. – Javon Young captured victories in the 60 and 200 meter dash preliminaries to lead the Charleston Southern men’s track and field team to a 6th place finish on day one of the Big South Track and Field Indoor Championship.

Liberty enjoys a healthy lead in first with 75 points, but the Bucs are only separated by six points from second-place Gardner-Webb with 22 points after the first day of competition.

Young’s 60-meter time of 6.70 seconds set a Big South standard earlier this season at the Tiger Paw Invite, and the senior matched that effort to take first place honors once again. Closely behind Young was teammate Rozzie Johnson, who sprinted his way to a 2nd place standing with a time of 6.78. Lavon Allen joined in on the fun in the event as well, as Young’s classmate earned 4th place with a time of 6.82.

In the 200 meter, Young took 1st with a 21.28 finishing time, while Johnson was once again in close pursuit with a 2nd place finish of 21.58, and Allen 4th in 21.94.

Sophomore Avery Coe provided the Bucs a lift with another strong outing in the triple jump, going for a distance of 14.60 meters to take second. Allen added to an excellent all-around effort in the triple jump as well, placing 3rd with a jump of 14.41 meters.

Zack Pociatek and Richie German came through for CSU in the weight throw, meanwhile, finishing 5th and 6th respectively.

The second and final day of the Big South Track and Field Indoor Championship is set to begin Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
