CSU Edged by College of Charleston

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The Charleston Southern tennis team saw its five match winning streak come to an end in a hard-fought 4-3 loss to No. 74 College of Charleston at the Tennis Center at Patriots Point on Saturday morning.

Alexandra Walters once again set the tone for the Bucs by running her singles mark to a perfect 10-0 with a come-from-behind victory over the Cougar’s Jenny Falcone. Falcone took the first set, 6-4, but Walters flipped the script in the second set and then forced a tie-break in the third and final set. Walters gutted out the win in that one, taking it by a 14-12 final.

Marija Dzakovic and Alia Nour also notched singles wins for CSU out of the number four and six slots, respectively. Nour’s win was particulary impressive, as it came over Charleston’s No. 113 ranked, Katie Lee, 7-6, 7-5.

Charleston did enough to prevail by claiming the doubles point as well as the number one through three singles matches. Dzakovic and Olga Makhova earned the Bucs only win at doubles, topping Charleston’s Samantha Maddox and Irene Viana by a 9-7 count.

CSU heads back to the courts once again on Monday when it meets UMass in another out-of-conference battle. The Bucs and Minutemen are scheduled to begin competition at the Buccaneer Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
