Houston Takes First at Weems BaskinMarch 24, 2012

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Gabrielle Houston picked up a first place finish and Mulern Jean broke another program record as the CSU women’s track & field team competed in the Weems Baskin Invitational at the University of South Carolina in Columbia on Saturday.
Houston ran an 11.51 to win the 100-meter dash, while teammate Brittney Greer took 13th in the event in a time of 12.27. Jasmine King ran a 25.55 in the 200-meter dash for 24th place, while Greer took 27th in 25.65. Deona Jones placed 28th with a finish of 25.66, while Mary Elliott ran a 26.16 for 35th place. Sharni Butler took 51st in the event with a time of 27.63.
Elliott also competed in the 400-meter event, taking 34th with a time of 1:02.33. She was joined by Butler, who took 44th with a time of 1:09.37.
Susanna McKee and Adrienne Cuff took 11th and 18th place, respectively, in the 800-meter run. McKee crossed the line in 2:19.96, while Cuff finished in 2:21.63. Ashlyn Kunda also competed in the event, taking 50th place with a 2:48.29.
In the 15,000-meter event, Cuff finished 17th with a time of 4:54.90 while Hannah Burkholder ran a 5:24.88 for 36th place.
Jean took third overall and set a new school record in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 13.90. Rashida Dooling was seventh in the event with a 14.88 while King finished 21st in 16.18. Kerona Parnell ran a 16.42 for 25th place. King and Jean took 11th and 12th in the 400-meter hurdles, with King running a 1:05.43 and Jean finishing in 1:05.74. Dooling was 15th with a 1:07.21 while Eloisa Paredes took 18th in 1:07.76.
Heidi Dean and Mary Davidson competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, taking eighth and ninth place. Dean finished in 12:09.25 while Davidson completed it in 13:20.66. The Lady Bucs “A” squad also took third place in the 4 x 100 meter relay with a time of 46.70.
In the field events, Jones placed sixth in the long jump with a distance of 5.43 meters. Sequoya Casey was ninth (5.34m) with Tamisha Foster taking 14th (4.93m). Foster and Casey took third and fourth in the triple jump, respectively. Foster recorded a jump of 11.95 meters, while Casey had one of 11.52 meters. Joshlyn Noga recorded a throw of 37.28 meters for 39th place, while Talei Tagavakatini placed 46th with a throw of 35.52 meters. Katelyn Brummet placed 23rd in the javelin for the Bucs with a throw of 27.14 meters. Tenasia White placed 19th in the hammer throw with a throw of 46.31 meters. Daisy Whitaker took 27th, with a final toss of 43.01 meters.
The Bucs will head to Jacksonville, Fla., on March 30-31 to take part in the University of North Florida Invite. Related Item: Box Score
