CHARLESTON, S.C. – The CSU baseball team will head across town to face the SoCon’s College of Charleston Cougars in a 6 p.m. match up at Patriots Point Field in Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday. Head coach Stuart Lake also announced that the two teams will meet at CSU Ballpark on May 9 in a 3 p.m. contest as a makeup for last week’s rainout. The College of Charleston leads the overall series with Charleston Southern 41-12. The two teams split the series last season. WARD VS. THE COUGARS Kyle Ward’s only appearance versus College of Charleston came in the Bucs 4-3 victory on April 13 of last year when he threw a scoreless 2/3 of an inning in relief. ISON KEEPS PLUGGING Bobby Ison continues to be a bright spot for Charleston Southern this season. Ison currently sits tied for 10th in the Big South in batting average hitting .351. He also currently has an 11 game reached base streak and is tied for the team lead in multi-hit games this season at eight. Ison is also batting .516 this season when leading off an inning. OFFENSE SPARKS After recording double digit hits in games two and three of the series vs. High Point, the Charleston Southern bats have now seen double digit hits on the scoreboard for seven of their last 14 games. The Bucs scored nine runs on 13 hits in game two of the series and six runs on 11 hits in a 6-5 victory in game three. KEEPING THEM AT BAY Senior hurler Charlie McCready added another quality performance to his record this past weekend when he went 7 1/3 innings vs. High Point to get the win in the series finale on Sunday. The southpaw faced 32 batters and allowed seven hits in the contest. Opposing batters are now hitting just .221 off McCready, which ranks him tied for seventh in the Big South. USING THE LEATHER With 67 assists on the season, second baseman Jaren Sustar is now third in the Big South in that category. Sustar, who started the season as the CSU third baseman, has committed just two errors since making the switch early in the season.
