Martin Named Mid-Major Defensive All-American Again

by CSU Sports Information

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern senior forward Kelvin Martin was named to the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Defensive All-American team for the second year in a row, it was announced Monday.

Martin had previously been named the Big South’s Defensive Player of the Year for a second consecutive season, and garnered a place on the All-Conference First Team with a brilliant final campaign at CSU. Martin was the driving force in the Bucs’ first winning season since 1996-97, as he led the team with a career-best 15.4 points per game, and 9.1 rebounds per night, which ranked as the top mark in the Big South.

Martin also continued to shine on the defensive end, where he led the league in defensive rebounding and steals, and ranked second in blocked shots. The 6-5 forward from Adel, Ga. ranked top-10 in the Big South in seven separate statistical categories overall.

Martin finished his final regular season with a flurry, delivering three straight double-doubles to raise his total for the year to 12. Martin also delivered career-high point totals of 27 and 31 in back-to-back outings as CSU topped Wofford on senior night, before falling at VMI five days later. The Bucs’ leader also came through with a 21 point, 13 rebound, five block, three steal performance in a 65-59 road win over Radford to cap off the regular season, and then went for 18 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 blocks in CSU’s 88-74 triumph over Liberty in the Big South Tournament Quarterfinals.
