CONWAY, S.C. – Braxton Drummond and Zach Pociatek both had strong showings in the field events to lead the Charleston Southern men’s track and field team to a fourth-place ranking after one day of action at the 2012 Big South Conference Men’s Track & Field Championships, hosted by Coastal Carolina in Conway on Thursday.
Drummond was the 2012 runner-up in the long jump, recording a distance of 7.29 meters to finish .03 meters behind champion Tyler Askew of Coastal Carolina. Drummond entered the meet with the Big South’s second-best performance of the season with a jump of 7.36 meters at the UNF Invite back in March.
Pociatek took home a fourth-place finish at the hammer throw with a toss of 53.86 meters for a personal best. Teammate Richie German was 11th in the event, recording a throw of 49.60 meters.
The trio will be back in action for the Buccaneers on Friday for the second session of the 2012 BSC Championships.
