Tallahassee, FL - Charleston Southern's 2005 baseball season got underway on Friday afternoon in cold, windy conditions as the Buccaneers lost to Florida State, 2-1, at Dick Howser Stadium.
Florida State scored a run in the first and a run in the third and made it stand as three Seminole hurlers limited the Buccaneers to only one hit on the day.
CSU starter Brad Bissell took the loss despite a solid opening day effort. Bissell allowed two runs on six hits, striking out four over six innings of work. Bissell allowed only one extra base hit and two of the hits were infield singles.
CSU's only hit on the day came in the eighth inning when shortstop Billy Dalton laced a double down the rightfield line. The Bucs scored their lone run in the fifth, aided by an FSU error and a wild pitch, which allowed Graham Maiden to score from third.
The two teams will battle again on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., weather permitting. The Friday night and early Saturday forecast is calling for showers. The game will be broadcasted live on the internet beginning at 1:55 on csusports.com.
