TALLAHASSEE, FL - Florida State spotted Charleston Southern two first-inning runs but scored nine unanswered en route to a 9-2 win over the visiting Buccaneers at Dick Howser Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
FSU takes both of the first two games in the series with the finale set for Sunday at 1 pm. CSU will send junior Bobby Parnell to the mound as the starter.
Charleston Southern, limited to one hit in a 2-1 loss on Friday, managed only two hits on Saturday, none after the third inning. The Buccaneers scored two runs off FSU starter Michael Hyde, aided by a pair of walks, an error and a hit batsmen.
FSU answered with three runs in the bottom of the first, using two hits, two walks, an error and a hit batsmen. CSU starter Ian Holmen lasted only two batters in the second inning before giving way to Josh Evans with two runners on and no outs. Holmen was charged with five runs on thre hits, walking three and hitting a batter.
FSU scored three more runs in the second, adding two runs in the fifth and a single run in the sixth. The Seminoles finished with 10 hits on the day.
Catcher Brad Woods and first baseman Graham Maiden had CSU's only hits, both singles.
Evans and freshman Brian Bridges finished the game for CSU. Evans allowed five hits and three runs, walking four and striking out four, while Bridges, in his first collegiate appearance, allowed two hits and a run in three innings of work.
