GAINESVILLE, FL - The 15th-ranked Florida Gators scored a run in the bottom of the ninth to hold off Charleston Southern, 3-2, in college baseball action on Saturday afternoon. The rubber game of the three-game series is on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
Charleston Southern (2-4) trailed 2-1 in the seventh when pinch-hitter Jason Rose led off the top of the inning with a solo homerun. The Bucs had a chance to take the lead in the top of the ninth but an inning-ending double play foiled the opportunity.
Reliever Josh Evans took the loss, allowing three hits in the ninth. CSU starter Ian Holmen had a solid start, allowing four hits and two earned runs in 6 2/3 innings.
Senior outfielder Jordan Haar led CSU offensively with three hits on the day, giving him five hits in the first two games of the series. Rose added a single in addition to his homerun. CSU out-hit the Gators for the second consecutive day, finishing with eight safeties to Florida's seven.
