CSU Baseball Releases 2013 ScheduleNovember 1, 2012
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Head Coach Stuart Lake and the Charleston Southern baseball team announces the release of their 2013 season schedule.
"We are very excited about the schedule we have put together for the 2013 season,” commented Lake, who enters his fifth season leading the Buccaneer baseball program. “The nonconference portion of the schedule, highlighted by trips to Clemson and South Carolina and a home date with Ohio State, is difficult and will surely prepare our team for the rigors of Big South Conference play. The schedule was also put together in hopes of reducing missed class time for our players. By scheduling 30 games at home at CSU Ballpark, we were able to accomplish this while also giving our fans plenty of opportunities to see us play.”
Season-tickets for all 30 home games are currently on sale. For more information on season-tickets, click here.
The Buccaneers will open the season with a nine-game home stand including a three-game series to start the year on Friday, February 15 and single games against cross-town rivals College of Charleston on Tuesday, February 19 and The Citadel on Wednesday, February 27.
The Bucs non-conference schedule will continue after the initial nine-game home stand with a weekend, road trip to Jacksonville at the start of March for two games with North Florida and one against Jacksonville State. On Tuesday, March 12, the Bucs will welcome the Ohio State Buckeyes down from Big 10 country for a single game at CSU Ballpark starting at 2 p.m. CSU will then hit the road the following Wednesday and travel to Clemson to take on the ACC-juggernaut Tigers.
The back-to-back games against Ohio State and Clemson lead right into Big South play on March 15. The Bucs will travel to Lynchburg, Virginia to battle the Liberty Flames in a three game series. Games at UNC-Wilmington and a three-game series with The Citadel will follow the Bucs’ Big South opener with Liberty from March 20 to 24.
CSU will continue in their Big South schedule with a series at home against UNC-Asheville. The Bucs and Bulldogs will play a single game on Friday, March 29 and a double-header on Saturday starting at 11:30 a.m. Following the Asheville series, the Bucs will head to Columbia to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks. South Carolina is not the defending National Champions for the first time in three seasons after losing to Arizona in the College World Series last year.
Following the game with the Gamecocks, a three-game series at Gardner-Webb (April 5-7) and a three-game set at home with VMI (April 12-14) will sandwich around single games at home against Georgia Southern and a road game against USC-Upstate.
The Bucs will meet Savannah State for the second time of the season on Wednesday, April 17 in Savannah, Georgia followed by a Big South series at home with Presbyterian. The final four conference weekends will be away at Winthrop (May 3-5), on the road at Radford (May 10-12) and at back to the friendly confines of CSU Ballpark to finish out the regular season against Coastal Carolina from Thursday, May 16 to Saturday, May 18. Mid-week games in the final month of the season include games at Georgia Southern (Wednesday, May 1), home against Savannah State (Tuesday, May 7) and home against USC-Upstate (May 8).
The Big South Tournament will be held in Lynchburg, Virginia from May 21 to May 25. Regionals will begin May 31 to June 2. Super Regionals from June 6 to June 8, then the College World Series from Omaha, Nebraska will start June 15 and end on June 26.
