CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern used a pair of big innings to take two games from Savannah State in a college baseball doubleheader at Buccaneer Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Bucs won game one, 7-5, and won the nightcap, 6-3.
Charleston Southern improves to 4-5 on the season while Savannah State falls to 8-2 overall. CSU returns to action on Friday, hosting George Mason at 2:30 p.m.
Senior shortstop Billy Dalton had two hits and three RBI and senior outfielder Jordan Haar had two hits and two RBI to spark the Bucs to the victory in game one. Haar’s double to left center scored two runs, giving CSU a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the sixth as the Buccaneers overcame a 5-3 deficit with a four-run sixth. Senior outfielder Brian Sole hit a solo homerun for CSU as well.
Ryan Sowers (1-0) earned the victory in relief of starter Brad Bissell. Sowers allowed two runs on four hits in four innings, striking out a career-high six batters. Senior Nino Fasulo pitched the seventh for his first save of the season.
CSU scored four runs in the fourth inning of game two, keyed by Sole’s three-run inside the park homerun. Dalton added an RBI sacrifice fly and finished with four RBI on the day. First baseman Graham Maiden had three hits in the two games, including a pair in game two.
Junior Josh Evans (1-1) earned the victory in game two, allowing three runs on three hits with seven strikeouts in six innings. Fasulo pitched the final inning to earn his second save of the day. Related Item: Box Score |
