HOLLYWOOD, S.C. - Coastal Carolina swept the men's and women's team and individual titles at the 2003 Roly Poly/College of Charleston Invitational Cross Country Meet held at Dixie Plantation on Friday. The College of Charleston women finished second, while the men placed fourth.

Top CSU finishers were newcomer Jason Salo, a junior college transfer, running the 5K in 17:03.80; and Cheryl Ewing, returning from last year's season-ending injury, finishing the two-mile course in 13:05.

"Our men had a struggle today, but Coastal Carolina and the other competition was very strong," Coach Travis Alexander reported. "Our top four female finishers cut an average of 35 seconds off the times they recorded in a time trial one week ago, and I'm sure both squads will only improve as the season progresses."

Both squads continue their seasons next Friday at the Gamecock Invitational, hosted by the University of South Carolina.
