CHARLESTON, S.C. - Senior pinch-hitter Jeff Kolhagen delivered a game-tying two-run single in the bottom of the seventh to lift Charleston Southern to a 9-7 win over visiting Furman on Wednesday afternoon at Buccaneer field.
Charleston Southern improves to 8-5 on the season with their seventh consecutive win while Furman drops to 3-5 on the season.
Senior centerfielder Jordan Haar had three hits and two RBI and freshman catcher Keith Stewart had a pair of hits for the Buccaneers, who tallied 10 hits on the day.
CSU's fifth pitcher, David Perkins, pitched the final 2 2/3 innings, allowing two runs in the ninth, to earn his first collegiate win.
Furman centerfielder Andrew Greene had two hits and third baseman A.J. Davidiuk had two hits and three RBI to pace the Paladins. Furman was hurt by five errors, allowing five unearned runs. Matt Klinker took the loss for the Paladins, falling to 0-2 on the season.
CSU led 4-1 heading into the seventh before the Paladins struck for four runs to carry a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the inning. CSU responded with three runs, the last two coming on Kolhagen's two-out single to center, his first hit of the season.
CSU added two runs on a single by Haar in the eighth and Furman got a two-out, two-run homer from Case Cassedy in the top of the ninth.
CSU returns to action this weekend, opening Big South Conference play at Winthrop with games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Related Item: Box Score |
