Summerville, S.C. – The Lady Bucs took the field against Tennessee Tech and N.C. A&T, today, in the opening round of the Hampton Inn/Comfort Inn and Suites Softball Invitational held in Summerville, S.C. CSU was able to win both games, topping Tennessee Tech, 5-4, and beating North Carolina A&T, 7-1.
In the first game between CSU and Tennessee Tech, CSU avenged an early season loss to the Golden Eagles, by beating them 5-4 in 8 innings. The game was tied at two after seven innings, and the Lady Bucs, who were the visiting team due to the tournament format, took advantage, to put three more runs on the board in the top of the eighth inning. The Golden Eagles responded by scoring two in the bottom half, but the Lady Buc defense held, giving them the victory.
The Lady Bucs faced North Carolina A&T in game two of the pool play section of the tournament. In the third inning, Dorothy Page led off the bottom of the third inning with a base hit, and then Tiffany Reid followed that up with a single of her own. With Jennifer Pardue at the plate with a chance to load the bases, she cleared them instead with her second homerun of the season. Jill Shondel drew a walk next and worked her way around to score, giving the Lady Bucs a 4-0 advantage early. After finally surrendering a run in the fifth, CSU would add two more runs to lead 6-1.
CSU will be back in action tomorrow at noon, when they take on Cleveland State, and then face Longwood at 2.
