CHARLESTON, S.C. - Senior left-hander Brad Bissell tossed eight shutout innings as Charleston Southern won their sixth straight game, defeating Fordham, 5-0, at Buccaneer Field on Saturday.
Bissell allowed five singles and struck out six over eight innings to improve to 2-2 on the season. He did not walk a batter and lowered his season earned run average to 3.20.
Charleston Southern improves to 14-9 overall and 11-0 at home this season, extending their home winning streak to 12 games dating back to last season. Fordham falls to 8-7 on the season. The two teams will wrap up the series on Monday at 2:30 p.m.
CSU managed nine hits, scoring a four runs in the first three innings off of Fordham starter Thomas Davis (0-1). Davis allowed five hits and four runs over six innings.
Sophomore left fielder Justin Fyle had two hits and an RBI to pace the attack. Drew Grosse, Keith Stewart, Graham Maiden and Jordan Haar each had an RBI as well.
Right fielder Greg Smith had two hits for Fordham but the Rams had only three runners reach second and only one base runner reached third.
