CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern has split the first two games of the weekend series with crosstown rival The Citadel, winning on Friday, 8-5, and dropping a 10-6 decision on Saturday. Game three is set for Sunday at 1 p.m.
CSU evens its record at 21-21 on the season while The Citadel brings a 15-23 record into Sunday's series finale.
On Friday, CSU overcame a 5-2 deficit with a five-run fifth inning and held on for the victory. CSU starter Josh Evans went seven innings to earn the victory, improving to 7-2 on the season. Ryan Sowers pitched a perfect eighth and Nino Fasulo closed out the ninth for his sixth save of the season.
Brad Woods, Jay Reynolds and Adam Brown had two hits each to pace the CSU offense with Brown leading the way with three RBI. Brown's looping single to left in the fifth scored two runs and broke the 5-5 tie. Keith Stewart and Reynolds also had two RBI each.
On Saturday, CSU committed six errors which led to six unearned runs and dropped the 10-6 decision. Brad Bissell allowed 10 runs but only four earned to fall to 3-6 on the season. Brian Sole had three hits and Brad Woods had two hits and two RBI in the loss.
