CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern scored early and often on Sunday afternoon, taking two of three games in the series with crosstown rival The Citadel with a 17-10 victory at Riley Park.
CSU (22-21) led 6-3 after two innings and opened up a 14-3 lead after five before the Bulldogs cut the lead to 14-8 after six innings. The Buccaneers put the game away with two runs in the eighth and another run in the ninth.
Sophomore Justin Fyle had four hits in five trips with three RBI and Jordan Haar added three hits and four RBI to pace the Buccaneers attack. Brad Woods added three hits and three RBI, finishing the series with seven hits in 13 at bats.
Ryan Sowers (6-2) earned the victory after completing five innings, allowing five runs on nine hits with four strikeouts.
CSU takes some time off for final exams this week and returns to action on May 3 when they host The Citadel at Buccaneer field. CSU is 8-10 in Big South Conference play with series at Coastal Carolina and Liberty still ahead.
