LYNCHBURG, VA - Charleston Southern dropped the first game of a crucial Big South Conference three-game series with Liberty, falling 4-0 on Friday afternoon.
CSU drops to 24-27 overall and 8-14 in Big South Conference, hanging on to a one-game lead over Radford for the sixth-place in the league standings. Only the top six teams advance to the Big South Conference tournament next week at Coastal Carolina. CSU needs to finish at least one game ahead of Radford after Sunday since the Highlanders hold the tie-breaker by virtue of the series win earlier this season. A CSU win coupled with a Radford loss on Saturday would secure the sixth spot for CSU.
Junior Josh Evans took the loss for CSU, allowing four runs in 5 1/3 innings. Evans drops to 8-4 on the season with the loss. CSU managed just six hits, all singles, in the game and the Buccaneers left 11 runners on base.
