CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charleston Southern quarterback Collin Drafts and wide receiver Markis Murry have been named the Big South football Choice Hotels Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week, respectively, for games played the third week of the 2005 season, it was announced today by the Conference office.
Drafts, a junior from Beaufort, S.C., helped the Buccaneers to their first win of the season with a 24-of-40, two touchdown passing performance in CSU’s 16-10 victory over Jacksonville. He completed 60.0 percent of his passes and tallied 194 yards through the air, becoming the second quarterback in Big South history to surpass 5,000 career yards. On the Bucs’ first scoring drive, Drafts accounted for the team’s entire total offense during the 10-play, 75-yard drive to close out the second quarter. He was 8-of-9 passing for 64 yards and added an 11-yard rush as CSU took a 7-3 lead.
Murry, a freshman from Calumet City, Ill., started his second game in place of injured receiver Maurice Price and hauled in four catches for 54 yards, including an 18-yard reception in the third quarter that set up a field goal for CSU.
