CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charleston Southern running back Andre Copeland has been named the Big South football Choice Hotels Offensive Player of the Week for games played the seventh week of the 2005 season, it was announced today by the Conference office.
Copeland, a redshirt-freshman from Lake City, Fla., set Charleston Southern’s single-game rushing record with 226 yards and four touchdowns (5, 3, 5, 29 yards) in the Buccaneers’ 63-42 win over West Virginia Wesleyan. He tied the Big South record for touchdowns scored and points scored (24) in a single-game, while his 226 yards are fourth-most in Conference history. He averaged 8.7 yards per carry and helped CSU rack-up a Big South total offense record of 695 yards. Copeland, who entered the game with 165 yards in his previous six appearances, totaled 118 rushing yards in the fourth quarter with two touchdowns, and caught two passes for 19 yards on the day.
