CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Sophomore receiver Maurice Price was named the Choice Hotels Big South Offensive Player of the Week, and sophomore linebacker Josh Mitchell was tabbed the New Balance Defensive Player of the Week after last weekend's 31-30 win over Liberty.
Price, a 6-1, 185-pounder from Orlando, Florida, tied a Big South and CSU single-game record with 13 receptions on Saturday, totaling 171 yards and two touchdowns. His 10-yard catch on fourth-and-goal with 1:10 to play in the game proved to be the winning score as the Buccaneers overcame a 12-point fourth-quarter deficit to win. Price also scored on a 73-yard pass, his third pass reception for more than 65 yards this season. He now has a Big South record six games with at least 100-yards receiving.
Mitchell, of Jacksonville, Florida, sparked CSU's defensive effort with 10 tackles, including eight solo stops. He recorded two tackles for loss and his sack with :19 left in the game secured CSU's record-setting sixth victory of the season. Mitchell is CSU's second-leading tackler with 79 total stops this season.
Charleston Southern improved to 2-1 in Big South play with the win last week and will host Coastal Carolina for the Big South championship on Saturday. Kickoff for the game is at 12:30 pm and will be regionally televised on the Big South television network.
