CHARLESTON, S.C. - Junior record-setting quarterback Collin Drafts was selected as the 2005 Most Valuable Player by his Charleston Southern teammates, head coach Jay Mills announced on Wednesday.

Drafts, who led the Big South Conference in nearly every statistical passing category and in total offense, completed 61 percent of his passes for a record 2,594 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also added nine rushing touchdowns, a Big South record as well.

Mills also announced that the team's five seniors - offensive linemen Shawn Huntsinger and DeAndre Harrison, tight end Brian Meers, defensive end Adam DeGraffenreid and spur Tavares Shorter - were selected as the team captains for the 2005 season.

Charleston Southern capped a record-setting 7-4 season with a 34-27 double overtime victory over Coastal Carolina on Saturday afternoon, clinching a tie for the Big South Conference championship.
