COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Charleston Southern women's cross country team turned in three top-20 performances on Friday to claim fifth-place team honors in the USC Invitational. It was the first meet of the 2008 season, and the first under the direction of Coach Ryan Thompson.
Freshman Jade Guralnick led the way for CSU with a 17th-place place finish in 20:27.08 for the 5K course. She edged out teammate Brittany Owens, who finished 18th with a time of 20:29.06. Just seconds later, dual-sport athlete Alicyne Smith, who had the weekend off from her duties on the soccer team, claimed 20th with a time of 20:40.14. Aundraya camp (25:43) and Tracey Epley (25:47) finished in 46th and 47th, respectively.
With a team score of 130, the Lady Bucs fell just short of Georgia Southern (123), but finished solidly ahead of South Carolina State (143) and Presbyterian (150).
