Lady Buccaneers Host Conference Rival Coastal Carolina

The Lady Buccaneers welcome the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina University to the CSU Field House on Saturday evening for what will be Coastal’s first conference game on the road. It will be both team’s third conference game of the season, and CSU’s third straight conference game at home where they are hoping to get their first Big South win of the season. The Buccaneers are entering off a close loss to league rival UNC Asheville, where the Bulldogs won by only 4 points despite 3 Bucs scoring in double digits.

Coastal took the series last season 2-0, while holding the all-time series record at 38-23. A win Saturday night would be the first for Coach Julie Goodenough as the Buccaneer’s head coach.

The Chanticleers enter off a loss from Big South rival High Point where the Chanticleers lost by only one point to even their conference record at 1-1. Their conference victory came over UNC Asheville on January 3, where the Chanticleers took the contest by a final score of 68-55.

Coastal comes into the contest averaging 58.5 points per game to CSU’s 75.1, but are holding a slight advantage grabbing nearly three more rebounds per game than CSU. The Buccaneers offense holds the advantage with a .404 field goal average while Coastal brings a .362, but the Buc offense could find their biggest adavantage behind the arc where the Chanticleers haven’t even taken half the attempts that CSU has taken.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

The Chanticleers are lead in scoring by Amanda Stull and Kendra Reynolds who are averaging 10.8 and 10.2 points per game, repsectivly, with Reynolds leading the team in rebounding as well with 7.5 per game. Stull makes conference marks in scoring holding the number 12 spot in current conference standings, while Coastal’s Sydnie Moss holds the number 18 spot, with a 3 spot on the team, averaging 9.7 ppg.

Defensively, Moss and Stull also rank 3rd and 4th in rebound standings for the Big South, with Moss leading in the number 1 spot in defensive rebounds and Stull holding in the number 10 spot.

Outside the arc, the Chanticleers are averaging just .253 on 154 attempts and are lead in attempts by Kate Jasinski, who has hauled up 48 tries this season, but teammate Jessica Noll has had12 find the hoop to Jasinski’s 8. The Chanticleers have had a total of 39 contections from long range, while the Bucs have finished 102. This could be a great assest to the Bucs as they look to rack up more points on less shots on route to a victory.

CSU Looking for Break

After their third loss ina row by 10 points or less, the Buccaneers are looking to snap their game skid as they bring in conference rival Coastal Carolina. Carolina has evened their conference record at 1-1, while the Bucs are looking for their first conference victory.

Spreading the Floor

In the 08-09 season so far, the Bucs have seen multiple games with multiple players score in double digits. The Bucs have had three games with 3 players in double digits, and amazing 4 games with 4 players in double digits and unbelieveable 2 games where 5 players racked in double digits for scoring, for a total of 9 games with 3 or more players in double digits.
