CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Charleston Southern’s Amanda Hill has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Volleyball Player of the Week, while Desiree Aramburu of Radford was tabbed The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week. Lady Buc Cori Holeman picked up Defensive Player of the Week honors, the League announced today.
Hill, a junior from Moncks Corner, S.C., posted three double-doubles and three 20-kill matches to lead Charleston Southern to a 3-0 record in Big South play, including wins over Coastal Carolina and UNC Asheville. Hill got her week started with 23 kills, a .339 attack percentage, 18 digs and three blocks as the Lady Bucs downed Coastal Carolina 3-1 on Oct. 27. On Oct. 30 against Gardner-Webb, she found the floor for 21 kills to go along with a .400 percentage at the net. Defensively, Hill came up with 18 digs and one block in the 3-1 win over Gardner-Webb. Hill closed the week out with 23 kills, a .432 hitting percentage, 18 digs and two blocks to push Charleston Southern to the 3-2 win over UNC Asheville on Oct. 31. In the three-match span, Hill averaged 5.15 kills per set, 4.15 digs per set and a .386 average at the net.
Aramburu, a setter from Chicago, Ill., dished out 118 assists and averaged 9.08 assists per set in three matches for Radford last week. In her first match of the week, Aramburu notched 38 assists and came away with 15, digs, two kills and two blocks as Radford downed High Point 3-1 on Oct. 28. Two days later against Winthrop, she posted 49 assists as well as four kills, one ace and two blocks. The next day against Coastal Carolina, Aramburu handed out 31 assists, three aces and five kills to go along with eight digs. She finished the week with 2.92 digs per set.
Holeman, a middle blocker from Fort Mill, S.C., came up big defensively in Charleston Southern’s three League wins as she recorded 18 blocks and averaged 1.38 blocks per set. Against Coastal Carolina, Holeman posted six rejections. She followed that performance with six blocks and six digs against the Runnin’ Bulldogs. She closed out her week with six blocks and six digs against UNC Asheville. Led by Holeman’s defense, Gardner-Webb and UNC Asheville each hit below .200 percent in the matches.
