CSU'S HILL, HOLEMAN EARN BIG SOUTH WEEKLY AWARDS

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) - Charleston Southern's Amanda Hill has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Volleyball Player of the Week, while Tyler Cockrell of Gardner-Webb was tabbed the Freshman of the Week.  Cori Holeman of Charleston Southern picked up Defensive Player of the Week honors for matches played Oct. 11-17, the League announced today.

For CSU, Hill and Holeman were each honored once before this season, Sept. 13. This is Hill’s seventh career Big South Player of the Week honor, and the third time Holeman has been tabbed as defensive player of the week

Hill, a senior from Moncks Corner, S.C., put away 57 kills, hit .346 and averaged 5.7 kills per set to lead her Lady Bucs to a 3-0 record last week, including two Big South wins.  The outside hitter got her week going with 21 kills on .410 hitting and added nine digs, two blocks and two aces as Charleston Southern knocked off Savannah State 3-0 on Oct. 12.  Three days later at Presbyterian College, Hill came away with 16 kills, seven blocks and three digs in the Lady Bucs' 3-1 win.  She finished her week with a 20-kill, 11-dig double-double to go along with a .462 average at the net to lead her squad to a 3-0 win at Gardner-Webb on Oct. 16.  The honor marks her second Big South Player of the Week nod this season.

Holeman, a senior from Fort Mill, S.C., registered 13 blocks for Charleston Southern in its three wins last week.  After posting one block in the win over Savannah State on Oct. 12, Holeman followed with eight rejections in CSU's win over PC on Oct. 15.  She closed her week out with four stuffs at Gardner-Webb on Oct. 16.  In the three match span, Holeman averaged 1.44 blocks per set to pick up her second Defensive Player of the Week plaudit this season.

Cockrell, a middle blocker from Tulsa, Okla., posted 33 kills, 18 blocks and hit .306 for Gardner-Webb last week.  She began her week with five kills and two blocks in the 3-0 win over North Carolina A&T on Oct. 12.  She got hot three days later as she posted 18 kills, a .382 attack percentage and 13 blocks, including six block solos, in GWU's narrow 3-2 loss to Winthrop.  She kept the momentum going the next day as she came away with 10 kills, a .400 hitting percentage and two blocks in a loss against Charleston Southern.  The award marks her first Freshman of the Week honor this season.

Also nominated for volleyball Player of the Week for Week 8:  Kelsie Mauck (Coastal Carolina), Molly Rhyne (Gardner-Webb), Megan Smith (High Point), Karyl Bacon (Liberty), Presley Mabrey (Presbyterian College), Desiree Aramburu (Radford) and Cindi Miller (UNC Asheville).

Also nominated for volleyball Freshman of the Week for Week 8:  Kayla Klinger (Charleston Southern), Lindsey Gill (Coastal Carolina), Maddie Simpson (High Point), Jade Craycraft (Liberty) and Andrea Barman (Presbyterian College).

Also nominated for volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for Week 8:  Megan Bickford (Coastal Carolina), Julie Hershkowitz (High Point) and Kendle Rollins (Liberty).
