FORMER BUC DAY QUALIFIES FOR NATIONWIDE TOUR EVENT

by CSU Sports Information

LAFAYETTE, La. – Former Buccaneer golfer Kelvin Day has qualified for this week’s Nationwide Tour Event after shooting a 67 in the Chitimacha Louisiana Open’s Monday Qualifier at the Wetlands Golf Club in Lafayette, La.

Day claimed one of the final 14 spots in the tournament’s 144-player field.  After battling through a playoff, Day became one of the final two players to earn a coveted spot in the tournament.    Out of 224 participants at the Wetlands and The Farm d’Allie, only seven players from each course were awarded a spot at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open, which will be held March 24th-27th at Le Triomphe Country Club in Lafayette.

“I am very happy for Kelvin,” said CSU men’s golf coach Mike Wilson.  “This is the first step in his journey to become a PGA Tour player.  He has the game to make it, and we are all pulling for him.”

Day was a four-year player for the Buccaneers, earning Big South All-Conference honors three times in his career.  As a senior in 2009-10, he qualified for and competed in the 2010 NCAA tournament as an individual.   He spent most of his final season ranked in the Golfstat Cup standings, peaking at 98th overall in NCAA Division I.  Day recorded at least 16 top-10 finishes in his career, and finished second at the Big South Championship in both 2008 and 2010.
