CLEMSON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern men’s track & field team completed another successful day of competition at the Tiger Paw Invitational, held at Clemson University on Saturday afternoon.
Dantwan Spreads finished 12th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.77, while teammate Juan Thompson was 16th in 51.23. Stephen Slan took 28th in the event in a time of 52.24. Thompson and Spreads combined with teammates Lavon Allen and Javon Young for a second place finish in the 4 x 400 meter relay with a time of 3:20.48.
The lone CSU competitor in the 800-meter run, Baxley Crosby finished 43rd with a time of 2:04.87.
The Bucs picked up second- and fourth-place finishes in the 200-meter dash as Young took the runner-up spot with a time of 21.58. Rozzie Johnson was fourth with a 21.99 while Braxton Drummond took 22nd overall with a time of 22.68.
In the 3000-meter run, Tyre Hines was CSU’s top finisher, taking eighth with a time of 9:03.99. Michael Marshburn crossed the line in 9:45.27 to take 24th overall while Martin Hutchens was 29th in 10:01.07.
Cleveland German and Richard Landford took part in the shot put event, with German taking 18th with a throw of 13.73 meters. Landford placed 27th with a throw of 12.33.
In the triple jump, Avery Coe picked up a fifth-place finish for the Bucs with a jump of 14.04 meters. Fellow Buc Cory Rhodes was 13th with a distance of 12.99 meters.
Next up for the Buccaneers is the 2012 Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships. The meet will take place February 24 and 25 in Blacksburg, Va.
