CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern University Head Women’s Basketball Coach Fred Applin is pleased to announce Annette Alston has joined the CSU women’s basketball staff for the 2012-2013 season.
Alston rejoins the Charleston Southern women’s basketball staff, having served as stint with the Buccaneers during the 1996-1997 season. During her previous tenure with CSU, she served as an assistant coach working primarily with the development of the post players, as well as pre-and post-season conditioning.
"It’s great to have Annette come on and join the staff," commented Applin. "She brings impressive credentials from her playing background in winning a national championship and her experience in coaching across the levels, having achieved success at both the high school and collegiate levels will make her a great addition to our staff."
Alston comes to Charleston Southern after a six year stint as the Girls’ Basketball Coach at Victory Christian Center in Charlotte, N.C. During her time with the Kings, Alston guided the team to three consecutive State Championships, spanning the 2007, 2008 and 2009 seasons, as well as Conference Championships in five of the six years she was at Victory. The Kings also earned National runner-up honors in 2009 to Potter’s House.

Prior to Victory, she served as an Assistant Coach at Radford University from 2002-2006. While with the Highlanders, Alston’s responsibilities included recruiting, scheduling pre- and postseason conditioning sessions, as well as developing the RU post players.
She also coached at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. for a season, serving on the Bulldogs’ coaching staff.
Alston displayed her diverse skill set in coaching the University of North Alabama Cross Country teams, as well as serving as the Assistant Basketball Coach from 1998-2001. Her responsibilities with the Lions included recruiting for both the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams, budget management, scheduling and the development of the runners both on and off the courses, as well as working with the post players on the basketball courts.
In addition to her coaching work, Alston served as the Faculty Advisor for the FCA at Coastal Carolina from 1990-1996, as well as the FCA Advisor at North Alabama from 1999-2001.
She also is a familiar face on the camp circuit, having worked individual and team camps at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill for 20 years, as well as working at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville individual and elite camps throughout the years.
Alston is a 1990 graduate of Francis Marion University, having received her degree in Elementary Education.
