CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern enters their lone Big South Conference weekend match seeking a victory as the Lady Bucs travel to Conway, S.C. to take on Coastal Carolina in a rematch of their five-set thriller over the Chanticleers earlier this season.
The Lady Bucs (12-18, 4-7 BSC) topped visiting Savannah State on Tuesday afternoon during their annual Dig Pink match after falling twice in Big South Conference play last weekend to Presbyterian and Winthrop. CSU looks to continue their winning ways against the Chants (9-13, 7-4 BSC) as Coastal defeated the Blue Hose, while falling to the Eagles to remain fourth overall in the Big South standings on the season.

In their first matchup against Coastal Carolina, freshman middle blocker Meredith Parrott recorded a season-high 14 kills and eight blocks as the Lady Bucs rallied in the fifth set against the Chanticleers to give head coach Al Givens his 400th career collegiate victory.
The teams split the first four sets, sending the match into a pivotal fifth frame and the Chants built an 11-7 lead in the set. However, the Lady Bucs ripped off six straight points behind three kills by Sydney Tracy and Kayla Klinger finished off the match with her 13th kills of the night to cap the rally and start the celebration inside Buccaneer Field House.
Charleston Southern enters the match this weekend following one of their most dominant performances on the season as the Lady Bucs swept Savannah State for the third time as CSU hit .408 from the floor, including a season high .611 in the opening set on their way to a school record 25-3 first set. CSU closed out the win with 25-12, 25-14 frame wins as senior middle blocker Wynter Davis led all players with 11 kills in the victory.
Parrott has been one of the top performers in conference play on the season hitting .309 from the floor in Big South play, while Klinger leads the team on the season averaging 2.65 kills per set. Several Lady Bucs players have stepped up their game inside conference play as setter Kirsten Struksnes is averaging 9.24 assists per set in conference action, while Davis (1.00 blocks per set) and libero Ashley Higginbothem (3.93 digs per set) lead the Lady Bucs defensive efforts.
Gabriella Horvath leads the CCU offensive efforts on the season, averaging 2.91 kills per set, while Eszter Nagy is hitting a team-high .297 from the floor for the Chants. Lauren Alejo sets up the Coastal attack with 8.33 set assists while four players have 20-plus service aces on the year.
Defensively, Sam Skryd leads the backline defenses with 2.87 digs per set, while Kindra Bailey is averaging 1.00 blocks per set to lead the Chanticleers at the net.
First serve on Friday’s match at the HTC Center between the Lady Bucs and the Chanticleers is set for 7 p.m.
